Wanda Mae Brinkley, a beloved member of the Dos Palos community, passed away peacefully on September 26th at the age of 95. For over nine decades, Wanda made Dos Palos her home.
She was born on April 25th, 1930 in Eakly, Oklahoma, to Mal and Esther McCurdy. Wanda was one of five children and cherished her roots and close-knit family throughout her life.
She worked as a waitress in her early years and later broke barriers by being the first female to sell fertilizer in the area. This was a role in which she earned respect for her determination, work ethic, and pioneering spirit.
At just 17 years old, Wanda married the love of her life, Earl Brinkley. While Earl was away serving his country, Wanda worked tirelessly to help start and grow the family farm. This was a testament to her strength, independence, and resilience. Together they built a successful business and beautiful life, but their pride and joy came along in 1963 when their daughter Earlene was born.
Wanda had a zest for life and many passions. She traveled the world, embracing new experiences and adventures. At home, she enjoyed playing cards and bunco with her lifelong friends where they shared many laughs and memories. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Earlene and son-in-law Eric Fontana, two grandchildren Erica Golden (Husband-Jeff Golden) and Michaela Fontana, and two great-grandchildren John-Taylor Golden and Hudson Mae Golden, all of whom she loved dearly. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Wanda's caregivers, whose kindness, support, and compassion brought great comfort in her final years.
One of Wanda's final wishes was for her family and friends not to be sad but instead to come together and joyfully celebrate her life. A service honoring Wanda will be held on Friday, October 10th at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church in Dos Palos with a graveside service to follow. A reception will be held afterwards at D.E.S. Hall where family and friends will gather to celebrate her beautiful journey. Wanda's legacy of love and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
