Obituary

Mamie Mae (Brooks) Diston, our Matriarch reached the end of her Blessed 85 years of LIFE on earth, December 25, 2023, at her residence in York, PA. Her hands were held by her daughter (Angela) & son (William) along with her grandson (JoMorrae'), great-grand daughter (Myah) and Paola being at the foot of her bed, as she took her last breath...she was NEVER alone during her transition.

Mamie was born on May 22, 1938 in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Soon after graduating from Atkins High School in Winston Salem, NC, she moved to Baltimore, MD, where she worked for Bank of America and later started her career at the Social Security Office on Woodlawn. She also met her Hearts of Kin the late Frances Thompson and they were friends to the end. In 1977 she transferred her job et Social Security to the Berkeley, CA branch and moved to Oakland, CA, where she met her forever best friend Carolyn Beasley and two years later her beloved husband. She retired from Social Security Richmond, CA in 1998. Before retiring she always enjoyed shopping and loved traveling with dad, family, friends and especially with her daughter. She traveled many places to include Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Bahrain, Dubai, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Paris, Mexico, Jamaica, Canada and many states throughout the United States. After her husband earned his wings in 2005, Mamie relocated to the east coast, York, PA in 2007 to be closer to her son, grands, late best friend Frances Thompson and other family & friends. Being a widow, she continued to live her Life to the fullest by staying busy. She went back to working with numbers by volunteering to doing taxes for AARP until January 2022, and yes, continued traveling. Mamie joined her beloved husband in heaven on the morning of their 44th wedding Anniversary Day. As I mentioned above, she loved to travel therefore, she flew from BWI back to Cali on 29 December 2023, on her favorite airline Southwest Flight #WN2035, to be buried with her Life~Time Partner.

Mamie loved her family dearly. Her children were the light of her LIFE and her relationship with her grands & great-grands was dearly cherished. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague and friend. Everyone who knew Mamie felt her enormous heart and giving nature. She has touched the lives of so many people with a gift of making everyone feel like family, with her passion and integrity to those whom her love was unwavering. She constantly made it a point to check in on people and was always a source of positivity. Mamie's family and friends describe her as nothing but kind, loving, caring, warm, strong will, generous, loyal, and brave. She'll always be loved, never forgotten and truly missed.

Mamie is predeceased by her mother Helen J. McNezzer (James), father William H. Chapman Sr.; son Jerome "Tony" Rapley; husband Nathaniel J. Diston Jr; brothers William "Chappie" Chapman Jr., Slyvester E. Chapman, father-n-law Nathaniel J. Diston Sr.(Robert aka MaDear), mother-n-law Olivia Holman, sister-n-law Bernadette Tryial and brother-n-law Percel Diston.

The family would like to specially thank Paola Sosa-Casanova, for her compassionate care during Mamie's stay in the hospital and hospice care at her residence and as she called her GGBaby (Princess Z) for getting her to take her medicine when she was being lovingly stubborn. A loving shout-out to her warmhearted bonus daughter Sharon Diston, who continued to stay in touch after she moved from California and her bonus adoring great-grand daughter Myah Valenzuela who also stayed in touch & visited on the regular. We'd also like to thank family and friends who became family, for their support and continuous prayers throughout Mamie's amazing LIFE on earth...especially during the last months
