Carroll D. Olds, a long time resident of Dos Palos, passed away on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at a hospital in Fresno. He was 88.
Carroll was born September 23, 1925 in Toguerville, Utah, the son of Levi and Kate (Dodge) Olds. He met then married Dorothy Cardoza of Los Banos on June 27, 1948 and later; they made Dos Palos their home. To this union, a daughter Carole and son Kevin were born.
Carroll was instrumental in the inception of the Westside Accident Prevention Association. This association provided the ambulance service throughout Merced County after Whitehurst Funeral Chapel's Ambulance Service ended. He later worked as a self employed professional photographer for more than 30 years. He partnered with his son Kevin in a commercial sheep operation for 10 years before retiring.
Carroll was a member of the American Legion Post 86, VFW of Los Banos, the Rotary Club of Dos Palos and Sacred Heart Church of Dos Palos. Carroll served as President of Dos Palos High School Band Booster during the time his children were in high school.
Carroll greatly enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and nine siblings.
Those surviving to cherish his memories are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Olds of Dos Palos, His two children Carole Schletz of Washington and Kevin Olds of Le Grand, CA. Seven grandchildren; Katherine Koehn of Atwater, CA, Lindsay Olds of Chico, CA, Marc Olds of Le Grand, CA, Phillip Schletz of Montana, Katie Saili of Oregon, Daniel Schletz of Alaska and Annie Schletz of Washington. Two sisters, Yvonne Perry and LaVee Heyborne both of Utah, two great grandsons; James Koehn and Niualava Saili, other relatives and friends.
A Vigil Service with Rosary will begin at 9 am, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church of Dos Palos. The Funeral Mass will follow. Mr. Olds will be laid to rest with honors at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, CA at 12:30 pm.
