Susan fought a valiant battle against lung cancer; and on January 6, 2014, at the age of 55, Susan passed into the hands of Our Lord with her family by her side.
Susan was born to George and Peggy Nunes on October 1958 and was raised in Watsonville, CA. She met her husband Ed in 1976 and they married two years later. They had two sons, David and Ed. Jr. Susan was a devoted wife to Ed and a devoted mother to both her sons; but her strength, passion and fortitude came when for over twenty years, day and night, she lovingly cared for Ed Jr. who has been a paraplegic from age three months. Susan was dedicated to Ed Jr. and gave him the best of care. He is now a young adult, totally self-sufficient, and who runs his own business. Susan was mostly responsible for his success. This was her goal, her gift, and she achieved it tenfold. At the same time she was caring for her two sons, she also ran a successful day care and influenced many young lives.
Susan is survived by her husband Eduardo Maciel; Sons: David Maciel and Eduardo Maciel, Jr.; Granddaughter Haylie Marie Maciel; Sister, Judi Tessier; Brother, Bill Nunes and his wife Kim; Brother-in-law Derek Witmar; Nephews: Gregg Tessier and BJ Nunes.
She is preceded in death by her parents George E. and Peggy J. Nunes and her sister Jeannie Witmer.
On Monday, January 13, 2014, the rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Los Banos District Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Chapel~Los Banos.
