Obituary
Donna Mooney passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2014 in Los Banos. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, she leaves behind many who loved her and will forever miss her.
Donna was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the seventh of eight children born to Todashi and Hisayo Kuroki. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1936. In 1942, Donna and her family were relocated to Colorado for a period of time before returning to southern California after World War II. While visiting her sister, Aiko, in Livermore, California, Donna was introduced to the love of her life, John Mooney, an English teacher at Los Banos High School. They married in Tijuana, Mexico on February 11, 1961. She remained in Los Angeles one year to help her mother, before joining John in Los Banos, where she would spend the remainder of her years.
Donna worked as a medical transcriber at Los Banos Memorial Hospital for fifteen years before retiring in 1995. After retirement, she continued working part-time transcribing for various local doctors. She found pleasure and enjoyment through her involvement in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed and nurtured many wonderful, lasting friendships. It can truly be said that Donna never met a stranger. An eternal animal lover, her home was never without pets. She loved them, and they adored her.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Chiyoko Uyeda and Aiko Bentley; and brothers Yoshiro, Jerry, and Ryoji Kuroki. She is survived by her husband, John; sons Steve (Nancy) Aredas, Michael (Jennifer) Mooney, and Kevin (Kathy) Mooney; grandchildren Marissa Cameron, Kristyn Aredas, Alysson Aredas, Brianna Mooney, Kyle Mooney, Michael Mooney, Jr., and Logan Mooney; great-grandchildren Ryland Cameron and Aubree Faria; sister, Mary Shizuru; and brother Shojo Kuroki.
