Obituary
John C. Brasil a long time resident of Los Banos quietly passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Modesto. He was 70.
John was born February 6, 1943 in San Antao, Sao Jorge, Acores. The son of Jose Andre and Mary (Nunes) Brasil. John came to the United States at the age of 17 in 1960 from Sao Jorge, Acores. He milked cows for a living util 1968 when he started his own dairy. He retired from the dairy business in 1997 and remained farming until he fell ill in June of 2013. He was a hard working, self employed dairyman/farmer, devoted husband and father of five daughters. John was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Society, DES Association, PFSA, and our Lady of Miracles. His true joy was being with his devoted wife of 45 years, his daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
John enjoyed going to Portuguese festas, traveling the world, but his favorite places to visit were the Acores and Pismo.
John was preceded in death by his parents; Jose Andre and Mary Brasil.
He is survived by his wife Deolinda S. Brasil; five daughters; Julian (Bill) Weaver, Deo (Troy) Thoreson, Diana (Paul) Cardoso, Cecelia (Raymond) Sequeira, Isabel (Brandon) Soares, four grandchildren; Cassidy, Johnathan, Caitlin, Nathan and one on the way due in June named Braxon, seven siblings; Filomena Marques, Rafael (Esperanca) Brasil, Bernadette Xavier, Jose Arnaldo (Lucy) Brasil, Noemia (Antonio) De Morais, Lacelete (Antonio) Reis, and Lili (Herculano) Torres; and sister-in-law Luisiana (Oscar) Drumonde/
Contributions can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Society, Modesto Memorial Hospital, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.
A vigil will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel of Los Banos from 3:30 pm. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, February 9,2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 10, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Los Banos. Burial at Los Banos District Cemetery. Services under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Chapel-Los Banos.
