Obituary
Pearl Irene Downum passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Pacific Care Manor in Morgan Hill where she received excellent care. She was 96.
Pearl was born December 31, 1917 in Sleeper, Missouri, to Homer and Amanda (Caulk) Stephens. She relocated to Dos Palos in the 1930’s with her family where she attended the Baptist church.
Pearl was a homemaker whose greatest accomplishment were her seven wonderful children. She loved sports and when her children played in school, she attended every game in which her children were involved. Her favorite NFL and MBL teams were49ers and the Giants. Pearl was an avid Sprint Car race fan who traveled many states with her daughter and son in law to watch the races. She was a remarkable gardener and spent much time cultivating God’s handiwork. One of Pearl’s pleasures was to take her entire family to “Woolgrowers Rest” at Christimas time. Some years there would be as many as 60 family members. This tradition was carried on over a period of 20 years.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Arlie Downum in 1969 also by three children: Arlene, Kenneth and Harold.
Surviving are her children Donald of Fresno, CA, Jerold of Cumming, GA, Roger of Los Gatos, CA , and Ann Owen of Gilroy, CA. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, beginning at 9am until service time. The funeral service will begin at 11am. Services will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel of Dos Palos.
Pearl will be laid to rest in Dos Palos District Cemetery.
