Lawrence Anderson Jr., a long time resident of Merced, California passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center. He was 70. Lawrence was born July 21, 1944, in Alzheimer, Arkansas to the union of Lawrence Anderson Sr. and Annie Estella McIntosh.
Lawrence was the youngest of three children. At the age of seven years old, his family
moved to Dos Palos, California where he attended Elementary School, Jr. High School
and High School.
He could often be found swimming in the canals. He enjoyed fishing and he was
always making excuses for not catching a lot of fish. It was either “the fish took
his bait.” or “someone was making too much noise scaring the fish off.”
Lawrence was an avid sports fan. He loved the L. A. Rams. The Kings, The
Dodgers, The Clippers and the Lakers. He loved to play cards and running the
football pool. When his corvette was running, he could be found riding with the
moon roof open and just chilling.
In 1972, Lawrence married the love of his life Barbara Jean Shaw. They were
blessed with three children. Their blended family consisted of Ike, Jonathan and
Sabrina. In 1973, Lawrence moved to Merced, California where he has resided for the
past 43 years.
He was employed as a construction worker. He was a member of The Labors
International Union #748. He worked on the Los Banos Reservoirs. He worked for
Grief Brothers and after being employed for 30 years he retired. In March 2015, Lawrence received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Annie Estella Anderson, his sister Annie Mae Sheppard and his brother Tommy Forest.
He leaves to celebrate his home going: his wife, Barbara Jean Anderson, his sons: Ike Anderson (Starla) of Dos Palos, CA, Jonathan Willis (Nee) of Fresno, CA, his daughter Sabrina Cooksey (Tyrone) of Merced, CA, his brother, Luther Anderson of Oakland, CA,14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 11am to 12pm at The Rock Church in Dos Palos, followed with the Funeral Service at 12pm. Burial at the Dos Palos Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Whitehurst Funeral Chapel-Dos Palos.
