Obituary
Pedro Joaquin Brazil, 80 years old, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Doctor’s Hospital, Modesto, CA. Mr. Brazil was born on July 1, 1936 in Topo Sao Pedro, Sao Jorge, Acores. In 1957, he joined the military and served one year in Terceira and three years in India. After discharge, Pedro returned home to marry his wife Ernestine Oliveira on June 26, 1961 and after getting married, they came to California to start their new life together. They both studied and were granted their citizenship shortly afterwards. Pedro was the first of his family to come to America. This in turn helped him call and bring his family also to California. Pedro’s first job was as a milker at a dairy in Los Banos. His dream one day was to own his own dairy. In 1974, his dream came true as he started his own dairy in Los Banos. He worked very hard with his wife and two children on the dairy until 1986. After selling the dairy, he started a new business with his son Albert as Brazil’s Gardening Service. Pedro enjoyed going to work every day up until the time of getting sick. He was a very gentle, loving, and humble man and was also very proud of his Portuguese heritage. He was a member of the Los Banos D.E.S., Our Lady of Fatima Society in Los Banos and Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joao and Mariana Brasil; brothers: Manuel, Joao and Jose Brasil; sisters: Maria Candida Brasil, Trindade Oliveira and Madelena Borba.
Pedro is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ernestine; children: Christine (Aaron) Wren, and Albert (Martha) Brazil; Grandchildren: Angela and Amelia Wren, Gabriela and Luke Brazil; brothers Fernando (Maria) Brasil of Modesto and Antonio (Maria) Brasil of Turlock; sister: Elena Silva of Sao Jorge, Acores; sister-in-laws: Maria Brasil in Turlock and Rosa Brasil in Sao Jorge, Acores; Also many nieces and nephews in California and the Acores.
Visitation times are on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel in Los Banos. Funeral services will be held on the same day at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.; burial will follow at the Los Banos District Cemetery.
