Obituary
Pedro Cortez, a longtime resident of Dos Palos passed away surrounded by his loved ones at his daughter’s home in Madera on Saturday, February 11, 2017. He was 89.
Pedro was born December 4, 1927 in Comstock, Texas, the son of Enrique and Gregoria (Castillo) Cortez. Pedro served in the US Army during World War II, for which he was awarded The Victory Medal and The American Occupation Medal.
Pedro met the love of his life Amelia Escobedo and married her on October 7, 1951 in Firebaugh, CA. He worked as a supervisor for 20 years.
He will be deeply missed and remembered lovingly by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Amelia Cortez, two son; Daniel and Paul Cortez, three brothers; Juan Cortez, Chon Cortez and Henry Cortez and three sister; Feliz Gusman, Francis Magallon and Senorina Gonzalez.
He is survived by his two daughters; Anna McGuire and Patty Lyons, two sons; Ernest Cortez and Robert Cortez, 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one on the way, 5 great-great-granchildren, many family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel of Dos Palos followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Burial at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at 1:30 pm in Santa Nella, CA. Services are entrusted to Whitehurst Funeral Chapel-Dos Palos
