Dr. Michael Deldin (Dr. D), 68, of Los Banos, CA, passed away on December 13, 2017. Michael was born in New York, NY, to Ethel and Anthony George Deldin. He grew up in Miami, FL, pursuing his passion for medical research at the University of Miami, going on to complete his pre-med baccalaureate studies with Phi Beta Kappa honors at Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 1971. In 1976 he completed his residency in pediatrics through the Baylor College of Medicine (TX), at Ben Taub General Hospital, Jefferson Davis Hospital, and Texas Children’s Hospital. He earned his M.D. to practice as physician and surgeon from Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis, MO, 1977. Dr. Deldin spent a few years practicing in parts of California and Oregon before moving to Los Banos and opening his practice here in the early 1980s.
Dr. D’s family practice became a fixture in the Los Banos community, serving multiple generations of families for decades. Loved by young and old alike, patients visiting Dr. D. might look forward to a silly chat with Donald Duck, a goofy dad joke, the most recent conspiracy theory, or some good old-fashioned political banter. Above all else, patients flocked through his welcoming doors for his compassionate and loving bedside manner, where they knew they would receive his generous support and encouragement, and exemplary care. He will be deeply missed by those he cared for with such loyalty, leaving a tremendous hole in our community, and our hearts.
Outside of his office, Michael was also a rescuer of critters, and was very dedicated to taking care of his animals. He cherished time working in his garden, landscaping, trail running, hiking, and being outdoors in general. His favorite thing in life was to sit on his balcony overlooking Estero Bay with a cup of coffee, watching the ocean, listening to the birds chirping and the rabbits rustling in the leaves.
Michael is survived by his son and daughter Jon-Michael Deldin of Everett, WA and Ellyse Deldin of Grand Canyon, AZ; wife Tami Deldin of Los Banos, CA; stepchildren Alexandra Kersthold of Atlanta, GA and Erin Sanderson (husband Brandon Sanderson), and grandchildren Ella and Liam Sanderson of Los Osos, CA; sister Lauren Deldin (Marty Kelly) of Fairfax, CA; niece Rebecca Lockwood of Seattle, WA and the countless children (and children at heart) of the Los Banos community that he served for nearly 40 years. He is predeceased by his parents Ethel and Anthony George Deldin, and his stepson Ryan Kersthold.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10am, Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, 1840 Center Ave., Los Banos, CA.
