Obituary
Ida Lewis Toscano passed away at her home at the age of 100. She was born in Los Banos to Antonio and Maria Lewis, the youngest of ten children. For her entire life she lived on the Lewis family ranch, close to the house she was born and raised in. In 1946 she married Frank Toscano. They both enjoyed going out and taking long road trips to visit other states. They also loved spending time in Santa Cruz and Pacific Grove.
Ida loved her job. She began working for the Unified School District after high school and worked there for 55 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed travelling and going on cruises with her friend Lorraine. She also loved to play bridge. She even won a bridge tournament while on a cruise with her daughter and son in law. She would drive to stay with her daughter in Carmel Valley at the bedroom suite built just for her. She finally decided not to drive out of town at the age of 96. However, she kept her license current until it expired on her 100th Birthday insisting that she could drive if she wanted to.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Toscano who died in 1989. She always said she would never date or marry another man because she had such a good husband.
Besides her husband and parents, Ida was preceded in death by her nine siblings: Alfred, Joe, Tony, Frank, John, Manuel and Henry Lewis and her two sisters Mary Freitas and Alice Costa. She is survived by her daughter Francine Nissen (Ross) and her "boyfriend" Sugar boy, her much loved cat.
Services will begin with a visitation on Sunday, October 18, 2026, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.; the rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m.; the funeral mass will be held Monday, October 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Los Banos District Cemetery.
The family requests donations be made to an animal shelter of their choice in memory of Ida.
