Maria Olivia Escalante passed away surrounded by her family on February 8, 2025, in Chowchilla, CA. Olivia was born February 18, 1936, in Edcouch, TX to Francisco and Cecilia (Cavazos) Cerda. In 1955, she moved from Texas to Fresno, CA and in 1960 she moved to Dos Palos, CA where she resided during her long- blessed life of 88 years. Olivia met the love of her life Pedro Escalante and married him in 1950 in Texas.
Olivia was a member of the Guadalupanas Club and a member of the Dos Palos WIC (Women's Improvement Club).
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Tia and friend. Olivia loved to dance and welcoming people into her home greeting everyone with a smile and always had food ready for visitors. She was an awesome singer and a hard-working provider. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pedro Escalante, one daughter Maria Elia Escalante, two sons; Pete Jr. and Ruben Escalante and three grandkids; Patrick, Ishmael and Romyn.
She is survived by children: Linda Vasquez, Gracie Gonzales, Estella, Loy and Oscar Escalante, one sister Olga Alaniz, 32 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, 19 great great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Dos Palos Cemetery District. Reception to follow at 11:30 am at the DES Hall in Dos Palos.
