Obituary
Deolinda Fernandes Lopes was born in Covoada, São Miguel, Açores on February 1st, 1933. Her parents, Matilde and Verginio Fernandes, were dry land farmers. She was the youngest of five siblings. In 1956 she married her husband Carlos Lopes. Deolinda remained in São Miguel with family while Carlos took a construction job in Canada for several years. They had two children, Dimas and Carlos, and emigrated to the United States in 1966. They settled in Los Banos as her sister, Louisa, was living there. Carlos began working for Lindeman Farms until officially starting his own dairy in 1968. Deolinda worked alongside Carlos in growing their family business that their children now manage. Deolinda is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos, siblings Maria do Carmo Botelho, Louisa Silva, Serafina Marques, and Manuel Fernandes. She is survived by her two sons: Dimas (Connie) and Carlos (Colleen), five grandchildren: Alyssa (Donald) Drake, Sarah Lopes, Kelly (Cameron) Menser, Caitlin (Carson) Sousa, Celeste Lopes, three great-grandchildren: Gianna and Dominic Drake, and Madelyn Menser, and various nieces, nephews, and godchildren in São Miguel, Canada, and California. Deolinda passed peacefully in her home on Thursday, October 3rd surrounded by family. A Rosary will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel on Monday, October 14th at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm preceding the rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Tuesday, October 15th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Los Banos. Interment to follow at Los Banos District Cemetery.
