Obituary
Richard J. Freitas
88 years old. Born July 19, 1933 - Died January 22, 2022
Richard J. (Dick) Freitas passed recently leaving a legacy of family pride, endearing friendships and lifelong memories. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Rick (Nancy) Freitas, Laurie (Mike) Bogetti, Rochelle (Jeff) Goltz, Lynn (Scott) Arganbright, six grandchildren, Mike Bogetti Jr., Veronica Perez, Sarah Atkins, Natalie Freitas, Lauren and Lexie Arganbright, seven great grandchildren and his brother Raymond (Juanita) Freitas. His wife Rosemarie Freitas preceded his passing in 2017.
Dick spent his early years in Los Banos California. Born into a farming family that worked and played hard, owning and operating an independent dairy farm business while also carving out time to be musicians (marching and dance bands) and avid duck hunters.
He answered his country's call in 1953 serving in the U.S. Army as an infantryman during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Sargent prior to his honorable discharge. This experience left him with a profound sense of respect for the role our military plays in defending our freedom and the sacrifices his fellow veterans made for our country.
Known for his "old school, can do, and do it yourself" approach to life, Dick was widely respected for his array of skills as a welder/fabricator/operator who could build/repair/drive just about anything and get it done right the first time. His skill set afforded him a long and distinguished career with Pacific Gas & Electric retiring in 1998 after 35 years of service.
Throughout his later years he remained very active, working on his family's farms and homes advising and helping out on day-to-day projects (whether you wanted him to or not) and fishing every chance he got. His experienced presence and inherent wisdom will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Due to the ongoing challenges posed by the current pandemic, limited public visitation will be held from 9am-10am on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, 1840 S. Center Avenue, Los Banos, CA. Interment will be private at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. A celebration of life is planned for a later date (TBD). Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (www.vfw.org) or Hospice of San Joaquin County.
