Obituary
John A. Areias (Red) passed away in Los Banos on November 11, 2017, at the age of 93. John, the youngest of three children, was born in 1924 to Maria and Joseph Areias in Volta, California. He worked on the family dairy farm until he moved to Los Banos in the early sixties. In 1965, John married Anna Branco. They were married for 41 years, until Anna passed away in 2006.
While in Los Banos, John worked for Sorenson’s until he retired in 2013. John loved working at Sorensons. He would arrive before everyone, to make coffee and fill the cash register.
John and Anna loved to gamble. There were many trips to Reno, Sparks, and Lake Tahoe to play the slots. John belonged to the Golden Agers and faithfully attended mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. John was affectionately known to many as “Red”.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Anna, his daughter Cheryl, and his brother Joe. He is survived by his sons: Steven and Glen Branco; son-in-law: George Nelson; grandchildren: Travis and Whitney Branco; Elease Nichole, Jamie Craig, Jennifer Smith, Keith and Craig Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many friends and family who have touched Red’s life.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, November 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Services are under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Chapels~Los Banos.
