Obituary
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Albert Indart on November 9, 2023. He will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Albert was born in Macaye, France to Jean and Maya Indart on January 7, 1934. He has 7 siblings who continue to reside in France. He came to the United States when he was 26 years old with one suitcase and unable to speak English. He worked as a sheepherder in Stockton until moving to Los Banos. In 1968, at a magical New Year's Eve celebration at Wool Growers, he met a young woman named Janet DeGregori. They were married in November of 1969 and shared an amazing 53 years together.
Albert owned his own gardening business for over 40 years. He was known as the "Basque Gardener" in his signature overalls and red neck scarf. He took great pride in the yards that he cared for, always wanting to please his customers. He was a man of many talents, but his passion was woodworking. He always made sure that each of his children received his handmade treasures. He was known for his famous bird houses. No two were alike and they all were elaborate bird mansions.
He was a proud member of the Los Banos Basque Club. He loved to speak his native language with all the club members and was a regular fixture at the annual Los Banos Basque Club picnics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dominica and brothers: Jean Baptiste Indart, Gratien Indart and Jean Pier Indart.
Albert is survived by his wife Janet and his 3 children. His daughter Kathryn and husband Neil Taylor; his son Jean Oliver Indart and wife Bernadette and their two sons Cristian Manesh and Gratien Jean; and his daughter Christine and husband Paul Wagner and son James; his sister-in-law Nancy Vergara, and niece Karin and husband Tony Murabito. Albert (Papa as he was known) was very proud of his family and even more so of his three amazing grandsons Cristian, James and Gratien, brothers Leone, Martin and Robert Indart who they reside in France. Also, his sweet dog Bella.
Albert's wish was to have a private family celebration of life, so there will be no funeral services. Thank you all for respecting his wishes and expressing your condolences to the family. Donations may be made, in his memory, to the Los Banos Basque Club (PO Box 123, Los Banos, CA 93635).
As Albert always said, "Old gardener's never die, they just spade away."
